What is Reiki?
Reiki (ray-key) is a form of energetic healing and similar to yoga, has different types and lineages. The Usui or Japanese lineage of Reiki was rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui in the early 1900’s and is the form practiced by the Ohm Well’s practitioners. Reiki is given by the “laying of hands” and several other techniques.
The word “Rei” means universal and the word “Ki” means “life force”. Therefore, Reiki translates to “universal life force.”
Is Reiki Harmful?
Reiki is light energy and will not cause harm. It’s similar to a neutral atom and is related to first law of thermodynamics which states, “Energy is neither created or destroyed; it can only be redirected from one place or form to another.” During a Reiki session, no one is having their energy taken away. It’s simply being redirected to where it needs to be in the body.
Does Reiki Conflict With My Beliefs?
Reiki is not a religion and there is no dogma attached. There is no need for you to have certain beliefs in order to give and receive Reiki. You can however, attach your own spiritual beliefs to it the same way you may with your yoga practice.
Benefits of Reiki
The best way I like to describe Reiki is by saying it’s similar to when you are crying and upset, and someone comes and hugs you tightly and you begin to feel better. Reiki helps to reduce pain and stress while helping to increase focus and mental alertness. Reiki is about tuning into our bodies so that we can learn how to realign our energies and hug ourselves, and also be open to exchanging hugs with others too.
what to expect during a session?
A session typically lasts an hour. Some clients may experience sensations of warmth or cold. The most common position is for clients to lie down on their backs during a session. It is also possible to have a session while sitting on a cushion, in a chair or any other position that is comfortable for the body.
Each reiki session is comprised of the following:
Each session involves discussion to assess individual needs and concerns of the client.
The reiki practitioner will move around the client’s body applying various healing techniques to realign the energy centers in the body based on feedback from the client discussion.
*Consent* Healing touch may be applied during a reiki session. Sometimes these hand on adjustments can feel great, other times they may trigger experiences or emotions that we do not want to come up. Each client has the power to decide whether they have a hands on or hands off healing session. The reiki practitioner will ask before beginning each session.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A SESSION?
During the initial session, the reiki practitioner develops a personalized healing regime for each client. It’s recommended that clients schedule at least one session a month, as our wellness journeys are a lifetime commitment. However, clients are welcome to schedule as many or as few sessions as they like.
An initial Reiki session costs $75.
Follow up Sessions: $60
